SAN DIEGO, CA, Feb. 11, 1992 - OCTuS, Inc. is demonstrating OCTuS PrintConductor 650, OCTuS FaxConductor 750, and OCTuS PageConductor 550 at Booth #1514, Networld, Boston. These shared network appliances are designed to provide an economical means of supplying communications tools for Novell networks. OCTuS PrintConductor 650, a stand-alone print server, simplifies the task of controlling all print resources on a network including job management, font management, and resource accounting. It also has 600 resident bit mapped fonts. OCTuS FaxConductor 750 is a fax server that allows users on a Novell Network to send and receive faxes directly from the desktop. It also automates archiving and provides resource accounting. OCTuS PageConductor 550 (previously named PDL-Net) is a network printer-server card which features high-speed printer emulations for printing with considerable costs savings. OCTuS PageConductor 550 is available immediately through authorized resellers or directly from OCTuS for $3,495. OCTuS PrintConductor 650 will be available March 1 for $3,995. OCTuS FaxConductor 750 will be available in April for $5,995. For more information call 61 9/452-9400. OCTuS, formerly Office Automation Systems (OAS), is the first shared network appliance company. Privately held, the company was founded in 1983 and has more than 70 employees. -------------------------------------------------------- SAN DIEGO, CA, Feb. 18, 1992- OCTuS, Inc. today announced OCTuS PrintConductor 650, a stand-alone print server for Novell networks. OCTuS PrintConductor 650 simplifies the task of controlling all print resources on a network including job management, font management, and resource accounting. OCTuS PrintConductor 650 manages all print jobs on the network, automatically directing print jobs to the best printer based upon the size of the job, the fonts used, and type of paper required. In addition, it immediately communicates the status of the printer back to the end user. For example, if a user was printing a document with Times Roman as the specified font and letter head as the paper type, OCTuS PrintConductor 650 will send it to the printer which holds letter head. If the paper was out, a message would be sent back to the user. In addition to print job management, OCTuS PrintConductor 650 allows all network users to access all of its resident fonts from both DOS and Windows. The print server has over 600 resident bit mapped fonts including the entire Hewlett Packard (HP) LaserJet Series A-Z cartridge library. All 35 PostScript typefaces in HP bit map format are also included. OCTuS PrintConductor 650 has a special HP printer driver for use with Microsoft Windows, which allows access to all resident fonts from any Windows applications. Having fonts resident on OCTuS PrintConductor 650 is less expensive than other alternatives, such as purchasing soft fonts or cartridges. It also reduces network traffic by effectively managing all fonts that are available on the network. OCTuS PrintConductor 650 also provides the network manager with complete resource accounting, easing the task of cost control. All print jobs, including specifics such as fonts and number of pages, are tracked, allowing the manager to control costs and maximize network resources. It also allows network managers to assign user privileges and keep user and printer profiles for reference. OCTuS PrintConductor 650 is based on a 386 SX 16Mhz system in a Mini-Tower Case and comes with 2Mbyte RAM and 100 Mbyte hard disk. It utilizes a customized version of MOSAIC software from Insight Development and works with NetWare ELS ll, Advanced NetWare SFT, and NetWare 386. OCTuS PrintConductor will be available March 1 through authorized resellers or directly from OCTuS for $3,995. For more information call 619/452-9400. -------------------------------------------------------- SAN DIEGO, Feb. 18, 1992 - OCTuS, Inc., the first shared network appliance company, today announced a fax server that allows PC users on a Novell network to directly send or receive facsimiles from any Windows application. The economical OCTuS FaxConductor 750 also automates archiving and removes the burdens of memory storage from the server. The OCTuS FaxConductor 750 allows any desktop user three transmission options when they invoke the standard print command: fax, e-mail, or print. Because the product adheres to the Message Handling System (MHS) standard, users can easily send selected data via either fax or e-mail. A phone book feature allows users to easily assign an address. Incoming faxes are automatically routed to the appropriate network user and an E-mail message alerts recipients of pending faxes. On-screen document viewing is made easier with a convenient zoom feature that magnifies any portion of a faxed document. A key feature is automatic archiving which relieves the file server of the burden of memory-intensive files, by storing them on a 120 Mbyte backup tape. OCTuS FaxConductor 750 tracks and logs all faxing activity, giving the network manager an accurate means of accounting for and controlling costs. Because OCTuS FaxConductor 750 is a shared resource, the cost per node is much lower than add-in boards. The server supports between 25 and 100 nodes. Installation has been simplified, saving time for the network administrator. Other features include cost-saving delayed sending, automatic re-dial, and built-in security. The security feature allows the network manager to limit viewing to the cover page. OCTuS FaxConductor 750 has a 386 SX 25 Mhz system with 2 Mbytes of RAM. It operates at 2400 baud and is CCITT Group 3 compatible. OCTuS FaxConductor 750 incorporates a modified version of FacSys from Optus Software, Inc and works with NetWare ELS ll, Advanced NetWare SFT, and NetWare 386. The fax server has two RJ-11 C phone jacks which each support two lines. All four lines can be used for either fax or modem. OCTuS FaxConductor 750 will be available in April through authorized resellers or directly from OCTuS for $5,995. For more information call 619/452-9400.
